Closure Notice

Since 1982, LaPointe-Fisher Nursing Home has provided housing, specialized around-the-clock daily care, treatments and support to our residents. Throughout our extensive history, we have strived to be the “Home of Choice” by always putting our residents first. Our core values of Respect, Innovation, Growth, Holistic care, Teamwork and Safety have helped foster an environment where our staff, residents and families can thrive together. Current and past staff and volunteers have worked tirelessly to foster a welcoming and resident-centred home to live, visit and work – and one that is rich with quality care, activities and connections.

After many decades of serving the City of Guelph and surrounding communities, we are saddened to announce that our work is coming to an end. With the safety and security of our residents being our highest priority, we feel that the age of our building and significant investments required to maintain its state of repair are not achievable in the current economic situation. In addition, the logistics of installing additional fire sprinklers by January 1st, 2025, as required for all long-term care homes, has proved difficult with the structural aspects of our aging building. Due to a combination of other factors such as our upcoming license expiry, substantial increases in costs of construction, and health human resource challenges, we are forced to make the difficult decision to close our home. We have worked diligently and closely with the Ministry of Long-Term Care, Ontario Health and Home and Community Care Support Services throughout this process and have agreed that November 29th, 2024 will be our home’s date of intended closure.

We will be working carefully with local placement services and long-term care homes to help our residents transition to a destination of their choice. We are also planning ways to support our staff, to encourage them to remain with us until we close and to support them in finding gainful employment.

We are grateful to our entire community for helping LaPointe-Fisher Nursing Home provide services and a caring home to our staff and residents, and in supporting their families and friends. On behalf of the leadership team and the owners of LaPointe-Fisher Nursing Home, we thank you for your years of collaboration and support as we now work together to carefully and thoughtfully close our home and help our staff and residents through this transition period.
